It was while he was living in New York that he got interested in journalism. He used to work in music at night and wrote the weekly newspaper
Flushing, New York and
Queens Tribune during the day. Following his graduation, he got a job with the
Philadelphia Inquirer and
Sports Illustrated as a sportswriter.
In addition to his novels, Albom has also been responsible for the writing of award-winning screenplays, stage plays, and TV films, a musical in addition to contributing to a nationally syndicated newspaper column. For his work as a sports journalist over more than two decades, he was inducted into the
Michigan Sports and
National Sports Media Association Halls of Fame.
During his time as a sportswriter and journalist, he was one of the most decorated sports writers of his time as he was named the best sports columnist in the United States for 13 years by the
Associated Press Sports Editors.
A man of many talents, Mitch Albom is also an accomplished lyricist, pianist, and songwriter who wrote the title song for
Christmas in Connecticut, the TV movie.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven. The novel tells the story of an old wounded veteran who fixes rides at an amusement park and dies trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. In the afterlife, he meets five people who illuminate the mysteries of what he thought was a meaningless life and who show him the true meaning of his life.
The Stranger in the Lifeboat is a work that Mitch Albom published in 2021. It tells the story of 9 survivors on a lifeboat in the ocean. The survivors include the owner, five wealthy guests, and the staff who pull out a young man from the sea. He claims to be the Lord who can save them from their predicament if only they believe in him.
