Michael D. Coogan
Coogan attended Harvard University where he received a doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures.
Michael D. Coogan is a lecturer on Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Harvard Divinity School, editor-in-chief of Oxford Biblical Studies Online, Director of Publications for the Harvard Semitic Museum, and professor emeritus of religious studies at Stonehill College.
He’s also taught at Boston College, Fordham University, Wellesley College, and the University of Waterloo (Ontario). He’s also taken part in and directed some archaeological excavations in Jordan, Israel, Cyprus, and Egypt, and he’s lectured widely.
Michael was raised Roman Catholic and spent 10 years as a Jesuit. He holds a doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from Harvard University that he obtained in 1971. He received Stonehill’s Distinguished Faculty Award in recognition of his teaching and scholarship in 2000.
Michael has been featured in Secrets of Noah’s Ark and The Bible’s Buried Secrets from PBS’s NOVA series. He’s also appeared in Secret’s of Noah’s Ark (History Channel) and The Truth Behind the Ark (National Geographic), both of which are documentaries.
