Mark Hoppus
Mark Hoppus (Mark Allan Hoppus) was born on March 15th, 1972 and is currently 54 years old. Mark Hoppus was born in Ridgecrest, California, USA.
Mark Hoppus is a musician and producer. He’s the co-lead vocalist, bassist, and co-founder of blink-182, and the only member that’s appeared on every one of their albums.
He became interested in punk rock and skateboarding during junior high, and his dad gave him a bass guitar when he was 15 years old. Mark earned money for amplifiers by painting his dad’s house. He never took bass lessons, instead teaching himself by playing to bands like Bad Religion, the Descendants, and The Cure. “Silly Girl” by the Descendants made him fall in love with punk rock music and changed his life forever.
His sister introduced him to Tom DeLonge when he moved to San Diego to attend California State University San Marcos. Tom and Mark quickly started performing music in Tom’s garage. In order to impress Tom, Mark climbed to the top of a streetlight just outside of Tom’s home, but he broke both of his ankles on the way down, resulting in being on crutches for the following weeks. They formed blink-182 with Scott Raynor on drums.
Flyswatter was a demo tape that was a combo of originals and punk covers recorded in Scott’s bedroom and landed the band their first shows.
They signed to MCA to co-distribute their second album Dude Ranch in 1997, after producing numerous rock recordings and touring extensively.
He said that when they first met, Tom and Mark were skateboarding until late hours, antagonizing security guards, and were always having fun and getting up to weird stuff.
Fahrenheit-182: A Humorous and Inspirational Memoir is a refreshing and smart memoir from the vocalist, bassist, and founding member of blink-182, a pop punk band.
This is the tale about one angst filled kid from the desert, navigating the chaos of his parents’ bitter divorce and searching to find his place in the world. Every move across the country was another chance to reinvent himself, switching identities from goth to dork to skate punk, before eventually meeting his best friend that just so happens to be his musical soulmate.
With raw honesty and sharp humor, this book takes readers through Mark’s formative years as a latchkey kid in the 1980s, hooked on skateboards, MTV, and punk rock music. Mark reflects along the way on his lifelong battle with anxiety, his celebrated career with blink-182, and his public battle with cancer in a voice that is both unmistakably his own and relatable.
Threaded with heartfelt grit, this book is so much more than a memoir for blink fans. It is a smart, funny, and deeply human tale for anybody that’s ever reinvented themselves, struggled, and wanted to quit but still kept going.
