Lucille Ball
Lucille Ball (Lucille Désirée Ball) was born on August 6th, 1911. Lucille passed away April 26th, 1989 at 77 years old. Lucille Ball was born in Jamestown, New York, USA.
Lucille Ball was a comedian, actress, producer, and studio executive. In 2020, she was recognized by
Time as one of the most influential women of the 20th century for her work in all of these areas. She was a 5 time Emmy Award winner and received several other accolades, like the Golden Globe Cecil B. Demille Award and has 2 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
When she was 12, her stepdad encouraged her to audition for his Shriners organization which needed some entertainers for the chorus line of the next show. While she was onstage, she noticed that performing was an excellent way to gain some praise. In 1927, she and her family were forced to move to this small apartment in Jamestown after their furnishings and house got sold in order to settle a legal judgment.
Lucille was enrolled in drama school, where Bette Davis was also a student. She once said that all she learned in drama school was how to be frightened. Her instructors felt like she would not ever be successful in the entertainment business, and weren’t afraid to express this to her. But she was determined to prove them all wrong.
Lucille’s career started in 1929 when she landed a job as a model. Shortly after that, she started her performing career on Broadway using the name of Diane (or Dianne) Belmont.
She would appear in 30s and 40s RKO Radio Pictures films as a contract player, getting cast as a chorus girl or in similar roles, with supporting roles in A pictures and lead roles in B pictures.
Love, Lucy is Lucille’s valentine to her fans. A wise, warm, and witty memoir that she wrote by herself. She was at the pinnacle of her success when she sat down to record the tale of her life. There is no other comedienne that had made America laugh quite as much, no TV actress that had made the leap from B movies and radio in order to become one of the world’s most beloved performers. This is her story told in her own words.
The tale of this ingenue from Jamestown, New York, that was determined to make it to Broadway, destined to make a major splash, bound to marry Desi Arnaz, her Valentino. In her very own inimitable style, she talks about their life together (both turbulent and storybook); intimate memories of their friends and their kids; some wonderful backstage anecdotes; the empire that they founded; then the dissolution of their marriage. And with quite the heartfelt happy ending, her enduring marriage to Gary Morton.
This is the lost manuscript that her loved ones and fans are sure to cherish. Here is the life. Here is the laughter. Here is Lucy.
