Leslie Knope
Leslie Knope is a fictional lead character depicted by Amy Poehler in the
Parks and Recreation sitcom. For a large part of the show, she works as deputy director in the Parks and Recreation department in Pawnee. Always doing her work right, Knope feels the government should cater to its people and believes she can use her position to achieve it.
For her role as Knope, Poehler was nominated for several awards and received a
Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. After completing improv studies in the early 1990s, she co-founded a comedy group, Upright Citizens Brigade. Later in 1996, the group relocated to New York where their work became a 30-minute comedy series on Comedy Central two years later.
Poehler joined
Saturday Night Live, an NBC comedy show, as a cast member in 2001. She left the show in the mid-eighth season to become a lead character in the
Parks and Recreation sitcom as Leslie Knope. She has worked as an executive producer on several TV series such as
Three Busy Debras and
Difficult People. She hosted the Golden Globe Awards four times and also gave voice acting roles in
Shrek the Third and
Monsters vs. Aliens, among other films.
Poehler got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015 for her great work on TV. In 2014, she received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Musical and a Critics' Choice Award in 2012 for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
