In 1982, she served as Miss Golden Globe when she was 15 years old. That same year, she played a rebellious rock band member in
Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains.
She doubled her classes to graduate high school one semester early when she was 16, she sought and attained emancipation, allowing her to work the same amount of hours as an adult on movies.
Laura later enrolled at UCLA with the intent of double majoring in journalism and psychology, yet withdrew just 2 days into the quarter so she could film her part in
Blue Velvet.
Laura got an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance in
Rambling Rose, and her first Golden Globe was for her performance in
Afterburn, a TV movie.
In 1993, she achieved international recognition for playing Ellie Sattler in
Jurassic Park, a role she'd reprise again in
Jurassic Park III and in
Jurassic World Dominion.
