Shen is unlike any romance author I’ve ever encountered. When I first discovered her books, Shen’s heroes confused me. They were terrible human beings, and I couldn’t figure out how their abhorrent personalities had gone unnoticed.
But then, after several months, a few Shen fanatics on the internet told me that the author had a reputation for creating grotesque alpha males. I wanted to dismiss the tactic as a ridiculous storytelling tool. But then I realized that I was still reading Shen’s stories.
More importantly, I couldn’t get enough of them. I wasn’t put off by the horrible things the heroes did. If anything, they made the plot more interesting. This is a sub-genre of romance I had no idea existed. And to my utter shock, I actually love it.
