Kirk Alyn (John Feggo Jr.) was born on October 8th, 1910. Kirk passed away March 14th, 1999 at 88 years old. Kirk Alyn was born in Oxford, New Jersey, USA.

Kirk Alyn was better known as the first actor ever to play the role of Superman and the first Man of Steel in Hollywood. He launched his career as a showman in New York, where he initially excelled in chorus lines and vaudeville acts under Kirk Alyn, his stage name.

After moving to Hollywood soon after graduating from college, he acted in small serials and B-movies before he made it big when he was cast in the role of Superman. While his name never appeared in the credits due to an established tradition in radio, he was credited for his role as Clark Kent.

Superman would become one of the most successful movie serials of all time and opened the doors for Kirk Alyn to work on other projects. In 1950, he played Superman in Atom Man vs. Superman in which he shared the screener with Lyle Talbot who played the role of the scientific and brilliant madman Lex Luthor.

While Kirk Alyn loved playing Superman, he lost the role to George Reeves in 1951. But he would later find much success in other films such as Radar Patrol, Black Hawk, and Daughter of Don Q. He would ultimately return to the world of Superman when he played the role of Lois Lane’s father in the 1978 movie Superman headlined by Christopher Reeves.

Kirk passed on aged 89 in March 1999 and is survived by his three children. While he was never known for his portrayal of Superman, he will always be the man who brought the action hero to life when he was the first to play the role.

Kirk Alyn published his first work A Job for Superman in 1971. It is an autobiographical work that comes with a bunch of photographs and stories about Kirk Alyn when he played the role of Superman. The work also looks into other serial works in the Superman universe, even if Alyn was not involved in them. He tells of how he worked with other great actors such as Carol Forman, Noel Neill, Lyle Talbot, and Tommy Bond.
