Writing started out as a hobby for Kent. In 2014, he published his first book
The Fire Killer, a murder mystery about a fire investigator who dies while looking into a wildfire. This book is actually the last part of a series
The Banister Ranch Series, which he plans to make at least nine books long.

Dealing with Dementia Our Vanishing Mothermeant to support and guide others caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
The Fire Killer is a thrilling murder mystery that takes place in the made-up town of Banister, Arizona. The story begins with the strange and sudden death of Becky Lyndell. She was looking into a wildfire called the Bear Track Fire when she died. At first, it seems like an accident but it’s not. Someone wanted it to look that way, and there’s more going on beneath the surface.
The main person suspected of being involved is Aaron Waters. But there’s a big problem with that, he’s supposed to be in prison. So how could he be connected? Did he escape? Or is someone on the outside helping him? Becky’s uncle, Randy Banister, who works as a fire investigator, joins forces with a police officer named Mike Evans. Together, they set out to uncover the truth and catch the person responsible. As the investigation goes on, the suspense builds until the very end of the book.
At the end of
The Fire Killer, there’s also a sneak preview of
Banister. This book starts the Banister family’s journey way back in the year 1744, showing an earlier adventure in the series.
The Fire Killer is dedicated to emergency responders everywhere, and especially honors the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of brave firefighters who died on June 30, 2013.
The author, Kent Courtney, is from Arizona and has worked in fire investigation for 30 years. He uses his real-life experience and knowledge of wildfires to make the story feel believable, mixing real places with fiction in a powerful way.
