I knew Karen Harper was my kind of historical author when I read The Last Boleyn Girl. Yes, I fall in that camp that wasn’t particularly impressed by The Other Boleyn Girl.

Yes, it is partly my fault because I have a passion for history, which colors my perception of historical fiction. The Other Boleyn Girl is historical fiction, but I think it did a poor job of providing historical context for that story.

The Lost Boleyn has some inaccuracies, but it did not incense me quite as much as other novels with historical inaccuracies. Harper’s diplomatic approach to storytelling is to blame. Every book of hers that I’ve read sidesteps the problems that make other Tudor-related novels unbearable for me.

Her Elizabeth I books are excellent. Some history, some mysteries and most of the characters are real historical people. Loved them!!
