Frustrated with the lack of progress and needing money to support himself, he quit acting and traded stocks for three years. The money he made during this time allowed him to be more selective about his roles.
It was in 2007 that he finally had his breakthrough with
No Country for Old Men. The work was an adaptation of a popular Cormac McCarthy novel in which Brolin was cast as a Vietnam veteran named Llewelyn Moss, who stumbles upon a $2 million after a drug deal goes sour.
