John Madden
John Madden (John Earl Madden) was born on April 10th, 1936. John passed away December 28th, 2021 at 85 years old. John Madden was born in Austin, Minnesota, USA. Madden attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he received a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in education.
John Madden was one of the most popular television commentators and American football coaches, who is a cultural icon and for years was a beloved fixture in the
National Football League (NFL). In addition to his exploits in the NFL, he became a cultural sensation when he lent his name to
Madden NFL the video game series.
He started his journey in American Football playing defensive and offensive linebacker at
California Polytechnic State University. He was a very good player and in 1958, he was finally drafted by the
Philadelphia Eagles. However, he did not find much success as a knee injury forced him to retire.
Following his retirement, he got into a coaching career starting with being a defensive coordinator and coach at
San Diego State University and
Hancock Junior College. By 1967, he was working as a linebacker coach for the
Oakland Riders, and two years later at just 32, he was made head coach.
While he found a lot of success as a coach and was the best coach the
Raiders ever had with 103 wins, it was when he decided to become a football analyst on TV that he would gain much notoriety. Working with Pat Summerall at
CBS as a color commentator, they would form a formidable partnership that would make them the most famous duo in broadcast in the sport.

Hey, Wait a Minute his first work in 1984. In this one, he talks about his decade-long experience coaching the
Oakland Raiders. He also delves into his time playing football in college and high school and his injuries during those times. All in all, it is a book that tells of how he came to be the cultural icon he was.
In 1986, John Madden published the novel
One Knee Equals Two Feet. In the work, he tells stories about his experiences coaching players such as Jack Tatum, Kenny Stabler, and other greats in the
Raiders stable. He also tells behind-the-scenes stories of how he won the
Super Bowl and other memorable games.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All in 1988. The work is about his life on the road and off it as well as how he approaches things. He tells of his claustrophobia which made it impossible for him to fly but ultimately resulted in him modifying a bus, which would become something of a cultural phenomenon in addition to being his traveling motel room.
