John Kruk
John Kruk (John Martin Kruk) was born on February 9th, 1961 and is currently 64 years old. John Kruk was born in Charleston, West Virginia, USA. Kruk attended Allegany Community College.
John Kruk is a former professional baseball first baseman and outfielder. He played for the Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, and Philadelphia Phillies from 1986 until 1995. John’s been a baseball analyst for ESPN and a color commentator for Phillies games for NBC Sports Philadelphia.
John went to Allegany Community College where he played for Steve Bazarnic, Junior College Hall of Fame Coach. He is the first Major Leaguer to come out of Allegany and he has been followed by four more (Scott Seabol, Stan Belinda, Steve Kline, and Joe Beimel).
He was signed as the 3rd overall pick in the Special Draft selection on June 13, 1981. He started his pro career with the Padres. John played in outposts such as Beaumont, Walla Walla, Reno, and Las Vegas before he made his debut as a Padre in 1986. that same year, he played for the Aguilas de Mexicali of the Mexican Pacific League for the 1986-87 season. He helped Mexicali win both the Caribbean Series title and the League championship.
His breakout year was with the Padres during the 1987 season. He hit .313 with 20 homers and 91 RBI, and even stole 18 bases, showing a surprising amount of speed for somebody of his build, even though he got caught 10 times. He got featured as a backup on the National League All-Star Team in
RBI Baseball, a Nintendo game.
I Ain’t an Athlete, Lady is John’s funny, loose view of his world, his teammates, and his game. The flakiest and wildest bunch of players since the Gashouse Gang of the 1930s.
John shares his tales about growing up in a small town in West Virginia, passes his best dieting tips along, and takes you on a tour of the Phillies’ locker room.
John’s take nothing all that seriously and take no prisoners outlook shines right through. It makes clear why John’s quickly becoming the most popular player in the game today.
John likes his food, his beer, and doesn’t see too much of a point in combing his hair and plays the game of baseball far too well for anybody to get away with hassling him about any of it. John’s a 3 time all star at the publishing of this book, and has maintained a .309 average since coming to the Phillies back in 1989 and has had way more fun doing it than just about anyone in sports.
