John Kerry
John Kerry was born on December 11th, 1943 and is currently 82 years old. John Kerry was born in Aurora, Colorado.
John Kerry is an American diplomat, veteran, and politician who spent years in public service.
For three decades, he served in the US Senate before being nominated as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2004. He would then serve as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama. In his latter role, he was involved in international diplomacy, including negotiations on a nuclear agreement with Iran.
Before John Kerry got into politics, he served as a gunboat officer in the Vietnam War. He earned three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star for his service. When he left the US Navy, he fought for the rights of veterans of the Vietnam War and founded organizations to support activism against the war.
He launched his political career at the state level before he got elected to the Senate. As senator, Kerry focused on legislation on deficit reduction, foreign relations, campaign finance reform, and public education. He was also the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before he was appointed Secretary of State.
To combat climate change, John Kerry founded the organization World War Zero.
In his debut work,
The New War, Kerry asserts that global crime has become a threat to our way of life. He draws from his work in the senate to expose criminal cartels across the globe, from the Sicilian Mafia, Russian Mafia, Japanese Yakuza, Chinese Triads, and Colombian cartels. He explores how these criminal networks try to control governments, the courts, the media, and banks. He critiques government failures and the legal systems as he advocates for broad-ranging reforms. He believes the best solutions include regulating electronic money, global collaboration, shutting down offshore banks, using intelligence, and expanding legal reach internationally to beat criminal enterprises at their game.
In 2004, he published the work
Our Plan for America, in which he reflects on the philosophy that informed his 2004 presidential campaign. John Kerry believes that the US needs to be respected worldwide and to be strong at home. He explains his plan to help people feel safe, rebuild alliances, and protect the country. Kerry talks about fair taxes, clean energy, helping families with good schools and affordable health care, improving the economy, and creating jobs.
In his 2018 memoir
Every Day Is Extra, John Kerry tells his story. He shares about his graduation from Yale, his enlistment in 1966, and his service in Vietnam. Kerry returned home a disillusioned but highly decorated veteran who began efforts to end the war. He was ultimately elected to the Senate and served five terms before he was made the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, but ultimately lost the election to George Bush by one state. In 2013, John Kerry was appointed Secretary of State, where he led efforts to defeat ISIS, navigated the civil war in Syria, tried to negotiate peace in the Middle East, and helped secure the Paris climate agreement.
