John Boehner
John Boehner (John Andrew Boehner) was born on November 17th, 1949 and is currently 75 years old. John Boehner was born in Reading, Ohio, USA. Boehner attended Xavier University where he received a B.A. in business administration.
John Boehner is a retired politician, and served as the 53rd speaker of the United States House of Representatives. From 1991 to 2015, he served 13 terms as the US representative for Ohio’s 8th congressional district.
Right after graduation from Xavier University, he accepted a job with Nucite Sales, this small business in the plastics industry. He was promoted steadily and eventually became the president of the firm, quitting in 1990, when he was elected to Congress.
From 1981 until 1984, he served on the board of trustees of Union Township, Butler County, Ohio. Then he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1985 to 1990.
From 1995 until 1999, he served as House Republican Conference Chairman, making him the 4th ranking House Republican behind Majority Whip Tom DeLay, Majority Leader Dick Armey, and Gingrich. During this time, he championed the Freedom to Farm Act.
In 2001, he and Ted Kennedy wrote the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, which he’s said is his proudest achievement in his two decades of public service.
From 2011 to 2015, he was Speaker of the House after the Republicans had taken control of the House in the 2010 midterms.
In 2016, he joined Squire Patton Boggs, the 3rd biggest lobbying firm in the US. It was also announced that John would become a board member of Reynolds American.
In
On the House: A Washington Memoir, John shares some colorful stories from the smoke-filled rooms around the halls of power, the halls themselves, and in his fabled tour bus.
John’s the last of a certain breed. During a time when the arbiters of American culture had been obsessing over stuff like organic kale, SoulCycle, cold-pressed juice, the man that stood second in line to the presidency was unapologetically drinking a glass of red, smoking Camels, and hitting the links whenever possible.
Along with his own tales of life in the swamp city and about his comeback after he got knocked off of the leadership ladder, John offers impressions of leaders that he has met and what made them failures or successes, from Reagan to Ford to Obama, Biden, and Trump. He shares his views about how the Republican Party has gotten unrecognizable. He also chats about how he’s golfed with 5 different presidents.
Through his self-aware and honest reflections, you are sure to be reminded of this time when the adults were firmly in charge.
