Joel Garreau

Joel Garreau (Joel R. Garreau) was born in 1948 and is currently 78 years old. Garreau attended Notre Dame University where he received an undergraduate degree.

Joel Garreau is a former editor and reporter for The Washington Post, who also doubles up as a teacher and writer.

Garreau worked for years at The Post, writing stories about cities and culture and how people work and live. While working for the publication, he edited and wrote articles that shaped public understanding of urbanization in the United States.

He first became known for books that analyzed the cultures, way of life, and economies of North America. He asserted that continental America needed to be analyzed from the perspective of several cultural regions rather than as contiguous states or countries.

People play, shop, and work in the edge cities and skip the older city centers. As such, he looks at the growth of these cities, how they shape how people work and live, and why they matter.

In 2005, Joel Garreau published Radical Evolution, in which he explains how new technologies such as computers, robotics, genetics, and nanotech are changing how our minds and bodies work.

Over time, scientists are coming up with faster thinking, sharper memory, and stronger reflexes, which may become mainstream in the near future.
