Following a brief stint at Shell as a marketer, Carr moved into full-time comedy in 1997. It did not take long before he would become one of the most popular comedians who distinguished himself for his fearless tackling of taboo subjects and distinctive one-liners.

Carr would become even more popular hosting 8 Out of 10 Cats, the Channel 4 panel show, alongside its spin-off 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
