Jehad Abusalim
Jehad Abusalim was born in Deir el‑Balah, Gaza Strip.
Jehad Abusalim is the co-editor of the anthology
Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire. This is a very moving anthology featuring writings and poetry by Palestinian writers and artists.
The foreword of the book which is co-signed by Jehad, Jennifer Bing, and Michael Merryman-Lotze, notes that Palestinians in Gaza are rarely given voice or asked to speak, and that this anthology allows them the opportunity to do so via poetry and personal narratives.
The goal of the anthology is to open new understandings and in regard to the people from Gaza.
Jehad is a PhD candidate in History and Hebrew & Judaic Studies at NYU, and has worked at the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA as an Executive Director. Previously, he was the Education and Policy Associate of the Palestine Activism Program.
His academic research focuses on Palestinian and Arab intellectual responses to Zionism and the Jewish question in the early 20th century, particularly before the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.
Along with being the editor of
Light in Gaza, Jehad has contributed to other anthologies such as
Gaza as Metaphor and
Palestine: A Socialist Introduction, in which he wrote
Palestine in Tahrir.
