The Dexter series of books became a mini-television empire. It was first adapted in 2006 for a television show by Showtime that aired for seven seasons. The success of that show lead to numerous spinoffs including an animated series titled Dexter: Blood Spatter, an animated series titled The Dark Defender, an animated series titled Dexter: Early Cuts, and a minseries bringing back the original characters titled Dexter: New Blood.
The Dexter television show featured Michael C. Hall as Dexter, Julie Benz as Rita Bennett, Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan, James Remar as Harry Morgan, Lauren Vélez as Maria LaGuerta, and Angel Batista as David Zayas.
