The Earth’s Children series is not dumb. I say that because I read the synopsis for ‘The Valley of Horses’ years ago and thought it was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. Why would anyone spend their hard-earned money on a novel just to read about Neanderthals?
Well, as it turns out, I’m the exact type of person who would enjoy a story about Neanderthals. I have come to the realization that you can write a story about anything so long as you make it good.
Two books in, I am genuinely enthralled by Ayla’s journey. I never cared about the prehistoric era before I discovered Jean M. Auel. Now I’m tempted to take a class on the subject.
