Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda (Jane Seymour Fonda) was born on December 21st, 1937 and is currently 87 years old. Jane Fonda was born in New York, New York, USA. Fonda attended Vassar College.

Jane Fonda is an American actress and activist who first appeared on screen in the romantic comedy Tall Story in 1960. She is considered a film icon, with a career that spans over six decades and includes many different genres. Fonda has won numerous awards, including two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award. She has also been nominated for a Grammy Award and two Tony Awards. In 2007, she received the Honorary Palme d'Or, followed by the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2014 and the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2021.

On stage, Fonda made her Broadway debut in the play There Was a Little Girl in 1960, earning a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play. She returned to Broadway in 2009 for 33 Variations, which got her another Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Play. On television, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series for The Dollmaker in 1984. She was also nominated for Emmys for her roles in The Newsroom from 2012 to 2014 and Grace and Frankie from 2015 to 2022.

Jane Fonda has published several non-fiction books, and one notable one is Jane Fonda's Workout Book published in 1981. Jackie Sorensen started Aerobic Dance, but it was Jane Fonda who turned it into a national craze. This movement led to universities adding Exercise Science degrees, more research on Aerobics and Dance Fitness, and many accredited national certifications for Aerobics and Group Fitness. It also inspired new workout styles like Step Aerobics, Spinning, Hip Hop, Water Aerobics, Zumba, and more.

While some parts of the book are outdated when it comes to exercise and nutrition science, many ideas are still relevant today. For example, the importance of warming up, cooling down, stretching, and eating a healthy, balanced diet remains valid. Ironically, many exercises that were considered unsafe in the late 80s and early 90s are now popular in yoga and Pilates classes. What was old is new again!

Published in 1984, Women Coming of Age is a companion to Jane Fonda’s famous workout videos and books. Over the years, Jane has stayed famous for many reasons—activism, bold roles, style, and health and fitness. This book focuses specifically on her knowledge and passion for women’s health. Even now, thirty years later, it remains interesting and relevant.

The book includes a section at the end with step-by-step exercises for her famous workouts, but it’s not just a fitness guide. Jane discusses the body, every part, and every stage of life. She explains why and how we age, and how to deal with issues that older generations often accept without question. Yes, we all age, but that doesn’t mean we have to feel old. Jane covers topics that many people only discussed with their doctors back then, like menopause, sex, and the choices around hormone therapy.
