Jan Fennell
Jan Fennell was born in Fulham, London, England.
Jan Fennell is one of the most popular voices in the dog world, who made her name with the
Amichien Bonding technique and
The Dog Listener, the book that she published in 2001.
Her approach is used by thousands of dog lovers across the world as her works have been translated into more than two dozen languages and published in at least 34 countries. Jan has also shared her ideas on Australian and British TV in addition to giving seminars and talks in at least 26 countries.
It all began in 1992 when she met Monty Roberts, the horse trainer who instilled in her the value of working without force, which she incorporated into dog training. She started by helping neighbors and friends before she started getting appearances on local TV and radio.
After she realized that it was too difficult to reach every dog owner, she trained a team to help spread her techniques. Today, she spends much of her time teaching
Amichien Bonding, as she provides deep insights on canine behavior to owners, even as she trains others to become experts.
Jan Fennell’s courses have been taught to audiences in Australasia, North America, and Europe, which has created a large pool of people skilled in her dog training techniques.
Jan Fennell published his most popular work,
The Dog Listener, in 2001, in which he teaches dog owners how to talk to their canines using Amichien Bonding.
She shares stories of dogs of all types, from fearful puppies, bike chasers, and those that bark, as he shows how to get dogs to cooperate willingly rather than out of coercion. She explains how to understand dog signals and how small behavioral changes can result in massive differences.
Fennell teaches that dog training is all about respect, clarity, and patience rather than punishment or dominance.
A year later, Jan Fennell published
The Practical Dog Listener, which is a work that builds upon her debut by providing hands-on guidance for training everyday dogs.
As opposed to her debut, which was more of an explanation of dog behavior, this is a step-by-step explanation of the simple methods of dog training. It teaches introducing new pets, walking to heel, curbing overexcited greetings, and sitting on command.
Jan asserts that with patience and a good understanding on understanding natural instincts and communication, first-time and lifelong owners can get remarkable results.
About a decade later, Jan Fennell published
The Seven Ages of Your Dog, in which she teaches dog owners how to care for a dog through their lifetime from puppy to old age.
For each stage, Fennell provides many tips, such as how to deal with emotional changes, feeding, toilet training, vaccinations, puberty, and training commands. She believes in trying to understand the dog’s feelings and using consistency, awareness, and patience rather than force.
