James Veitch

James Veitch was born on April 1st, 1980 and is currently 45 years old. Veitch attended Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Aberdeen.

James Veitch is an English comedian known for his performances using video effects to show interactions with masterminds of scam emails. He made history in 2015 and 2016 by delivering the fastest TED Talk, which later hit 10 million views, making it one of the most popular TED Talks ever. Veitch gained fame for his fierce, nerdy, and funny online content.

Before his comedy career, Veitch worked as an Apple Store Genius, and he now incorporates technology into his comedy, exploring retro-gaming, troubleshooting, and the fast-evolving world of technology. He frequently uses high-tech elements in his performances, blending nerd culture with humor.

Veitch's first three shows sold out at Soho Theatre, and he performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2014 and 2015. He has performed in both the U.S. and the UK, becoming well known on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 2006, Veitch worked as a film editor on the movie Papa Joe and as a digital immediate conform artist on the 2008 film Middle of Nowhere. He launched his first comedy show in May 2014 at the Brighton Fringe, as part of the art showcase, Window. In 2015, he returned to the Edinburgh Fringe with his show Genius Bar, which focused on his time working at Apple. In 2018, Veitch starred in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and was a guest presenter on a live game show.

Veitch also hosts a series focused on investigative journalism for BBC Radio 4. In 2020, his work James Veitch: Straight to VHS was broadcast on HBO Max.

In his debut book, Dot Con, James Veitch shares the email conversations he had with people who tried to scam him. He provides tips on the art of scamming a scammer, detailing how he decided to play along with scammers to waste their time. Unlike his comedy videos, the book includes full conversations without editing, giving readers more depth into his interactions. If you’ve watched his videos, you’ll appreciate his editing skills, but the book allows for even more hilarious content.

The book features various scam propositions, such as lucrative job offers or inheritance claims. Veitch naturally replies to them, for example, entertaining an offer to wire money via Western Union—but only after humorously requesting money in return.

Dot Con is both educational and laugh-out-loud funny, making it a perfect gift for anyone with a good sense of humor. Veitch’s witty back-and-forths with scammers are lighthearted, never cruel or dismissive. He wastes as much of the scammers’ time as possible by going off-topic and deliberately acting clueless. If you’ve seen his videos, the book adds even more detail for extra fun.

James Veitch has a cunning ability to frustrate people who think they’re smart enough to scam others, all while keeping his audience laughing.
