James Garner (James Scott Bumgarner) was born on April 7th, 1928. James passed away June 19th, 2014 at 86 years old. James Garner was born in Denver (now Norman), Oklahoma, USA.

James Garner was an American actor known for his roles as a reluctant hero and easygoing character. His career was at its peak during the debut of 21st-century films like Space Cowboys (2000), the animated film Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), and The Notebook (2004).

In 1954, a friend from Hollywood High School, Paul Gregory, convinced him to take a small, non-speaking part in the Broadway play The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial. There, Garner had the chance to watch Henry Fonda perform every night. Garner started doing TV commercials, which led to roles in television shows. He was almost cast as the main character in the Western TV series Cheyenne, but the role went to Clint Walker because the casting director couldn't reach Garner in time.

James Garner was nominated for 15 Emmy Awards, winning twice. In 1977, he won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Rockford Files, and in 1987, he won as executive producer of Promise.

For his contribution to television, Garner received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6927 Hollywood Boulevard. In 1990, he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. That same year, he was also honored by being inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
