Henry Bushkin
Henry Bushkin is an American producer, attorney, and author best known for his personal and professional relationship with Johnny Carson, the legendary late-night host.
Bushkin was Carson’s lawyer for nearly two decades, even as he was also his close friend, legal advisor, business manager, and confidant. On air, Carson used to affectionately refer to him as Bombastic Bushkin, which just shows how close these two were over the years.
During his time working with Carson, Bushkin handled many of the star’s business and legal decisions, including contract decisions that made him into a bona fide icon on TV. However, their relationship would come to an end in 1988 following a professional and personal falling out.
Aside from his association with Johnny Carson, Henry Bushkin has been a lawyer for more than thirty years. During that time, he represented clients from across the world and engaged in business ventures in countries as diverse as China, Hong Kong, Italy, and Saudi Arabia.
Currently living in Los Angeles, Henry Bushkin remains a respected figure for his contributions to the entertainment and legal fields in addition to his portrayal of Johnny Carson, one of television's most private figures.
In 2013, Henry Bushkin published
Johnny Carson, an insider’s look into the life and times of Johnny Carson. The memoir tells of Johnny’s outrageous escapades, public triumphs, private struggles, and behind-the-scenes Hollywood moments with icons such as Reagan and Sinatra.
However, beyond the celebrity narratives, Bushkin presents an emotional and complex portrait of Johnny Carson as an enigmatic figure driven by success and plagued by insecurity.
In the same year, he published a non-fiction literary account of his time working for Johnny Carson as his friend, business partner, and lawyer titled
A Hard Act to Follow. It is an unfiltered account of the real Johnny Carson that many ordinary people never knew.
