Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is a convicted killer who became famous when she was found guilty of committing matricide. She killed Dee Dee Blanchard, her mother, on claims that she had subjected her to decades of medical, mental, and physical abuse.
Alongside Nicholas Godejohn, her boyfriend at the time, Blanchard was arrested in 2015, on suspicion of having been responsible for the killing of Dee Dee. The latter had been found stabbed multiple times in her home in Springfield, Missouri.
Gypsy-Rose is believed to have been a sufferer of the psychological disorder
Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. This is a condition in which a parent or guardian creates the illusion of their dependent being ill or makes them ill to garner attention.
Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s boyfriend Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder despite pleading not guilty. The court found that he had stabbed his girlfriend’s mother to death while Blanchard was waiting in the bathroom. For his crimes, he was sentenced to life in prison.
As for Blanchard, she was sentenced to ten years after she was found guilty of second-degree murder. She got a lesser sentence after the prosecutor took into account the fact that she could have been suffering from Munchausen’s Syndrome. She got out at the tail end of 2023 when she got paroled.

After she was granted early parole, Blanchard decided to tell her story of how she suffered emotional and physical abuse at the hands of Dee Dee her mother.
She was forced to have unnecessary surgery and take medication she did not need, as she was falsely told that she was suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses. She then tells of how all this forced her into the hands of an abuser and resulted in the death of her mother.
A few months after releasing her debut, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard published
My Time to Stand, a memoir of her life.
She chronicles how she endured a life of faux illness, exploitation, and fraud as she was robbed of most of her childhood and lived a life of isolation and pain. But despite it all, she asserts that it is never too late and that she is ready to embrace a fresh start.
