George Stuart Fullerton was an eminent psychologist and philosopher from the United States. Following his father’s death in 1865, his family moved to Philadelphia. Soon after graduating from college in 1879, he proceeded to attend Divinity School.
In 1890 he became a member of the
American Philosophical Society (APA). He got so involved in the organization that in 1892 he was asked to host its first-ever annual meeting. By 1896, he had risen through the echelons and would become the president of the organization.
As an adult, Fullerton started working as an instructor at the
University of Pennsylvania. He would then rise through the ranks to become an adjunct professor, department of philosophy dean, college dean, and university provost.
He was a
University of Vienna exchange professor in 1914 when the
First World War broke out. He found himself thrown in prison as an enemy of the state and spent four years in prison. It was such a harrowing experience that he was never the same when he returned to the United States at the end of the war.

Much of the work is about the philosophy of the mind, even as it promotes the concept of Parallelism. Fullerton argues that Parallelism does not necessarily result in man becoming an automaton.
