Glancy attended University of Missouri where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, University of Central Oklahoma where she received a Master's Degree in English and University of Iowa where she received a Master of Fine Arts.

Diane Glancy is the author of the Diane Glancy Collections series which currently consists of 25 novels. The Diane Glancy Collections series started in 1982 with the novel What Do People Do West of the Mississippi?. The most recently released novel in the Diane Glancy Collections series was The Book of Bearings which was released in 2019. There are no upcoming novels for the Diane Glancy Collections series.

Diane Glancy has also written the Non-Fiction Books series which has 14 books including Claiming Breath and West Pole.
