This is the second time in a month that I’ve encountered a mystery fiction author best known for writing about a wealthy investigator that chooses to solve crimes despite all the money they have.
I’m starting to wonder whether this is a new subgenre. I’m not complaining. I’m enjoying the Mac McKenzie books. I’m one of those rare readers who have very little patience for old, grizzled, miserable protagonists, which is why I am starting to lean towards the cozy mystery genre.
Housewright’s protagonist is not struggling with any significant vices or demons. To me, this is a good thing because it allows us to focus on the mystery. I’m only two books into this series. Hopefully, Housewright can maintain this quality of storytelling for the next 17 books.
I have been reading his work since he was mentioned by another Minnesota author. I have all the McKenzie novels and reading others. I enjoy his writing style and the stories and especially knowing where the characters are.
