Danny Fingeroth
Danny Fingeroth (Daniel Fingeroth) was born on September 17th, 1953 and is currently 72 years old. Danny Fingeroth was born in New York City, NY, USA.
Danny Fingeroth is best known as a cultural historian, editor, and author who spent much of his career investigating how superheroes and comics are a reflection of society.
Fingeroth’s first job in the field was when he worked at Marvel Comics for nearly a decade as an editor and writer on
Spider-Man. He also wrote and created
Darkhawk, the 50-issue run, in addition to contributing to
The Deadly Foes of Spider-Man series.
Outside of comics, he worked at Byron Preiss’s
Virtual Comics as Editor-in-Chief before he moved on to work at Visionary Media as Senior Vice President for Development.
Fingeroth is also the author of several works blending storytelling with cultural insight, as he shows how superheroes express human aspirations, fears, and values. Working with Roy Thomas, he is also a co-editor of
The Stan Lee Universe, where he compiled rare archival materials, artifacts, and interviews from Lee’s career.
Danny Fingeroth is the curator of several major exhibitions, including
Is This the Al Jaffee Art Exhibit and
Will Eisner’s New York. He is also the creator of a convention all about Jewish influence in comics, known as the
Jewish Comics Experience
As an educator and speaker, he has spoken at institutions such as San Diego Comic-Con, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian. He has also taught at The New School and New York University.
In
Darkhawk Classic, Fingeroth compiled several issues of the 1991 Marvel series. It tells of a teenager named Chris Powell who stumbles upon a strange amulet that turns him into Darkhawk.
With his new powers, Chris goes against Philippe Bazin, the crime boss, and villains such as Portal, U-Foes, and Hobgoblin, as he teams up with heroes such as Captain America and Spider-Man.
The work reflects on the teenager's struggle to balance his heroic duties with human life, even as he seeks to understand the origins of the amulet.
In 1996, Danny Fingeroth published the work
Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, which follows the two superheroes as they deal with a massive cloning disaster.
Burton Hildebrandt is a rogue scientist who works with A.I.M. and Hydra to steal the DNA of Bruce Banner to make clones of the Great Hulk. When Flash Thompson is made a test subject and Betty Banner is taken, Black Cat, Hulk, and Spider-Man team up with S.A.F.E. to stop the utter destruction of Manhattan.
In his 2007 work,
Disguised as Clark Kent, the author looks into how Jewish artists and writers shaped Wonder Woman, Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman, among other American icons.
The work looks into how Jewish identity, rooted in hope and struggle, shaped the moral values behind these characters. Fingeroth uses historical research and personal interviews to show how Jewish immigrants used less respected media to express themes of belonging, dual identity, and justice.
It also looks into how Jewish culture was central in the foundation of the modern superhero.
