Dane Deutsch

Dane Deutsch is an experienced leader, coach, and character development expert with more than 40 years of work in coaching, technology, and the military. He served as a U.S. Air Force officer and IT specialist, where he led teams of over 1,200 people and helped introduce advanced technologies, including ARPANET, which later became the internet. He uses his leadership background to guide others in becoming strong and ethical leaders.

Dane holds a double major in Physical Education and Health from Bemidji, Minnesota. He also studied Pre-Medicine while completing his ROTC training at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He later earned a Master’s degree in Information Communications Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Deutsch is the CEO and President of Deutsch’s Inc.

Deutsch’s book The Tricycle Effect is a practical guide to leadership that encourages readers to lead with strong character, not just technical skills. The author explains that many leaders today focus too much on job-specific abilities and forget the importance of values like trust, respect, and integrity. This creates an imbalance like trying to ride a tricycle with a broken wheel.

Through honest and relatable real-life stories, the book shows how character-based decisions can bring positive results, both personally and professionally. The author introduces a helpful model called the “Character Wheel”, which includes values such as trust, honor, and integrity, and explains how combining this with technical and people skills can lead to well-rounded and effective leadership.

This book offers meaningful lessons on how to find balance, build stronger relationships, and leave a lasting impact, whether you’re leading a team or just trying to improve your own life. It is a motivating read for anyone who wants to grow as a leader and live with purpose.

Dane Deutsch's other book Coach-Ability and The Tricycle Effect is a thoughtful and practical read about what it really takes to be a great leader today. This book encourages leaders to build trust, make ethical choices, and lead with strong character. In today’s world, people want leaders who are honest, dependable, and guided by values, and this book shows you how to become that kind of leader.

Using the idea of “The Tricycle Effect,” Deutsch introduces a unique approach to leadership that starts from within. He explains that being a good leader involves learning to coach yourself, help others grow, and being open to feedback. Through real-life stories and useful advice, he guides readers on how to develop key traits like humility, empathy, and trust, which are essential for character-driven leadership.

The book also helps leaders learn how to balance people skills with technical skills, especially when facing tough decisions. It encourages readers to think beyond short-term success and focus on building a meaningful and lasting impact.

Coach-Ability and The Tricycle Effect is a clear and inspiring guide for anyone who wants to lead with character, connect with others in a deeper way, and create a legacy that matters. It’s a helpful resource for both new and experienced leaders who want to grow personally and professionally.
