Leadership Identity, is a worthwhile read. Despite its title, this book is not about leadership techniques or principles. Instead, it delves into the character inherent to a leader's DNA. He grounds his biblical research in four essential traits in leaders: Brokenness, Servanthood, Uncommon Communion, Radical, and Immediate Obedience.
The first six chapters of the book explore the principle of brokenness before God. The author emphasizes that God’s leaders are imperfect and often unable to accomplish tasks independently, thus fully depending on Him. He notes that a spirit of surrender is key to embracing the brokenness principle.
Uncommon Communion is thoroughly discussed in chapters seven through nine. This concept reflects that Christian leaders walk daily with God, and their relationship and desires for God are evident in everything they do. This close relationship with God drives leaders to seek His wisdom continually.
Chapters 10–11 delve into servanthood. Dr. Crawford moves beyond the conventional servant leadership theme, stating that servanthood is not merely a strategy but an identity. He further emphasizes that people should earn leadership roles through humility and a servant’s heart. Chapters 13–15 discuss how Christian leaders should demonstrate radical and immediate obedience. He contrasts this with the lives of King David and King Saul, underscoring that obedience stems from a relational perspective rather than a sense of obligation.
His other book,
A Passionate Commitment, addresses why many Christians feel empty despite fulfilling all expected practices. Dr. Crawford attributes this to a lost sense of purpose. Like most of his books,
