Carrie Brownstein
Carrie Brownstein (Carrie Rachel Brownstein) was born on September 27th, 1974 and is currently 51 years old. Carrie Brownstein was born in Seattle, Washington, USA. Brownstein attended Western Washington University and The Evergreen State College.
Carrie Brownstein always wanted to perform ever since she was a kid growing up in Redmond, Washington. As such, she began to act as a form of escape from the turmoil of her family life. She would come into the public eye when she started performing with
Excuse 17 the band which was active between 1993 and 1995.
It was while she was in college that she co founded
Sleater Kinney the band alongside Corin Tucker who she had a romantic relationship with at the time. The band was named after a street where they used to do much of their practice while in college. It would then become one of the most prominent girl bands in the Riot Grrrl punk era.
Carrie Brownstein began working with Fred Armisen in 2005 as they made sketch comedy videos a few years before the conception of
Portlandia the show.
Sleater-Kinney was disbanded in 2006 given that Carrie and Corin had different visions and this left Brownstein in a very uncertain place.
Carrie got involved in charity and also worked as a blogger for
NPR though she hated it. She did not like the quiet life of a writer as there was nothing she found more boring than sitting at home trying to write smart paragraphs about music. As a person who thrives in chaos, she decided to pursue a career in acting and sketch comedy full-time.
Carrie Brownstein and Armisen developed the sketch comedy
Portlandia for the
Independent Film Channel in 2011. In addition to writing the comedy, they also starred in it alongside
Saturday Night Live writer Jonathan Krisel.
In 2012, Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen published
Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors which provides a look into the city of Portland. It comes with detailed maps of the best dining spots in the city including all the food carts and restaurants. It also provides detailed maps of dog trails, the many parks in the city, and up-to-date guides on entertainment schools and shopping spots.
The Portlandia Cookbook: Cook Like a Local follows on from Portlandia the award-winning show. In this one, they show you how you can cook the many foods that define the sketch comedy show. It comes with sidebars and humorous stories from some of the most beloved characters in the show and other aspects such as how to behave at a communal table.
In 2015, Carrie Brownstein published her memoir
Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl. In this work, the author reflects on her insecurity and struggle with her identity and how this sometimes impacted her music. All in all, she asserts that it is sometimes critical for people to embrace their quirky selves without shame.
