Caron Butler is a former basketball player turned professional basketball coach who is an assistant coach for the National Basketball Association’s
Miami Heat. While playing for the
Connecticut Huskies he won the
Player of the Year for the Big East Conference.
He had a very rough childhood and had run-ins with the criminal justice at a very young age. Aged only twelve, he started dealing drugs and by the age of fifteen, he had already been arrested. It was while he was detained at a youth center that he discovered his love for basketball.
He started playing seriously in high school before he joined the
Maine Central Institute where he was so good that he earned a scholarship to the
University of Connecticut. Playing under Jom Calhoun who was then coach, he was one of the best players on the
Huskies team.
Over the years, Caron Butler played for a bunch of teams in the NBA such as the
Sacramento Kings,
Miami Heat,
Detroit Pistons, and
Los Angeles Lakers among many other teams in the NBA.
When Butler retired as a player, he became a very successful broadcaster when he became a college game analyst for
ESPN. He would then join
Turner Sports in 2018 where he analyzed NBA games. Working with
Turner Sports, he was featured in several programs and was also featured on
NBA Game Time.
Tuff Juice - his memoir - was released in 2015. It is a work that reflects upon how he grew up to become one of pro baseball’s best players, a dedicated father and husband, a burgeoning businessman, and an active philanthropist.
In the book, Butler also looks into the impact of his mother who was a single parent and the unwavering support of his coach in college drove him to achieve all that he ever wanted in life and basketball.
Shot Clock is a novel that Caron Butler published in 2022. The book follows a young Tony who is struggling to come to terms with the horrific murder of his very close friend. Working with his AAU coach, the man guides him in the right direction and opens his eyes to the world in ways he never considered before.
