I have loved the blockbuster reality based novels of Ben Coes for the longest time. I recently read that he bases his books on his career in finance, the US military and in the White House, which perhaps explains how he writes very realistic and often violent plots of his novels.

The lead is Dewey Andreas who has to be in the top 10 of my favorite bad ass elite operatives. He is the United States best defense when the War on Terror is launched.

Ever since Andreas made his debut in the debut he has faced and deeated domestic and foreign enemies in the political and military spheres. I think he is something akin to the likes of the protagonists in a Brad Thor or Vince Flynn thriller.

Power the debut of the series was the first Ben Coes novel I read that got me interested in reading the rest of his novels. Ben pumps blood, heat and flat out action into the story of how terrorists are planning to attack the US by targeting its energy resources.

I don’t think I would have injected so much time into Ben Coes’ novels if I hadn’t skimmed his biography. I thought he was an army vet (for some reason), and I wasn’t impressed because I read plenty of action thrillers written by army vets. I don’t see the point in adding another one to the list.

His biography corrected my assumptions. Coes impressed me because he had a rich political history. Admittedly, his connection to the White House concerned me because I thought he would drag his stories down with political lectures.

But clearly, the man knows what he’s doing. Coes understands that we read action thrillers for the fast-paced action and tight plotting, and he delivers in spades.

The Dewey Andreas series is an excellent read. I have read the entire series at least twice, if not more. I always seem to find some small fact that I didn’t remember from the previous read
