My love for historical romance and time travel got me into reading the Oversea novel by Beatriz Williams. The author is genius in the way she chooses her words taking the reader from the bloody trenches of France in 1916 to the present Manhattan.
Beatriz has a unique ability to create feisty and strong protagonists while interweaving historical, present-day storylines.
The Secret Life of Violet Grant was really delightful as the characters kept entertaining, and the secrets of the suitcase kept me hooked. She’s a great storyteller, and I can boldly recommend her books to anyone interested in historical fiction.
Most of Beatriz’s novels are told in two different times of history and link the periods so well that the reader gets the whole picture.

Beatriz Williams doesn’t write literary fiction. I mention this because I am a literary snob, and on most days, I wouldn’t be caught dead reading historical romance of this nature. A friend of mine classified Beatriz’s novels as ‘Pulp Fiction.’

I guess that is true. That part of my brain that perceives great novels as high art doesn’t want to agree. But I can’t ignore the facts. The books in the list above are sappy and overly sentimental, and I still love them.

Maybe I have always loved fiction of this sort, and I didn’t know it because I never gave the genre a fair shot. Or perhaps Beatriz is simply that good. Either way, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her work to my friends.
