Barry Livingston

Barry Livingston (Barry Gordon Livingston) was born on December 17th, 1953 and is currently 72 years old. Barry Livingston was born in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Barry Livingston is a TV and film actor best known for his role on My Three Sonsplaying Ernie Douglas from 1963 to 1972.

He joined the show in 1963, as a neighbor, named Ernie Thompson. When one of the sons left 2 years later, he was adopted into the family, keeping the title intact and remained as a regular until the end. He’s the only cast member of the show that still has an active Screen Actors Guild Card.

Barry started his career as a child actor during the late 50s. He considers his film debut to be a role that he won playing one of Paul Newman’s sons in Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys, with Stanley (his older brother) who had already been working as a child actor.

Barry’s first professional onscreen appearance was in an uncredited small role in The Errand Boy, followed by roles as Barry, this neighborhood kid in The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, on The Dick Van Dyke Show, and on The Lucy Show as Arnold Mooney (son of Theodore J. Mooney, a banker).

The Importance of Being Ernie: From My Three Sons to Mad Men, a Hollywood Survivor Tells All is about how Barry was one of the few child stars that turned his early success into a lifelong career. Playing Ernie on My Three Sons, which also featured Stanley (his real life brother) playing Chip, he became immediately recognizable for his horn-rimmed spectacles and goofy charm. Five decades later, after working on TV on shows like Desperate Housewives and Mad Men, and in feature films such as The Social Network and Zodiac, he’s an actor that knows The Importance of Being Ernie.

In a funny and fascinating, he reveals his most unforgettable anecdotes. Attempting to upstage Ron “Opie” Howard. Working on set with Fred McMurray, Lucille Ball, Ozzie and Harriet, and Dick Van Dyke. Even shooting a Super Bowl beer commercial with Brad Pitt. Riding in a limo with Elvis.

At first his horn rimmed glasses and lazy eye almost derailed his career, getting him booted from his first major film that starred Paul Newman. Eventually, his “nerdy” look became his biggest asset, landing him a recurring role on Ozzie & Harriet and a regular role on My Three Sons.

He’s still going strong all these years later, from small screen and stage to featured movie roles opposite Robert Downey, Jr. and Adam Sandler.
