Barbara Freethy has an interesting name. I don’t think I have ever known a ‘Freethy’ in my life. She doesn’t write your typical romance. A friend of mine dropped her for that very reason. She prefers erotic fiction with shirtless models on the covers and sizzling sex on the inside.
Freethy doesn’t fall within that category. Her stories are sweet and reflective. She explores love, family, friendship, the true meaning of life, and other themes that matter to ordinary people. Some of her books are tropey.
But even when they become predictable, Freethy’s novels are uplifting. A librarian in my area makes a point to stock the author’s books, and she thinks they are beautiful. I agree.
Barbara Freethy writes well-rounded characters whom are fast to like. Her story plots are usually simple, and the subplots are neatly tied up. My first time reading Freethy’s book, I got sucked in right away, and I could wait to read more of her list of books. Callaway series is a feel-good romance story about a boy rekindling an old flame with a girl next door after many years of separation. Anytime you feel like reading romance novels with a few steamy scenes, I would recommend Freethy’s work. Her book covers are Eye-catching to grab ones attention while making one curious about the story in the book. In the Off the Grid: FBI series, be sure to get cleverly plotted and highly suspenseful romance.
