Barbara Delinsky introduced me to romance. I have a friend who likes the genre, and I finally decided to give it a go a few months back. I came across Delinsky’s name randomly on the internet and decided to give her a try because she won RT Reviewers Choice Awards in the past.
But I have to say, Delinsky’s novels are not what I expected. When I think of romance, I imagine large, alpha males with bulging muscles sweeping swooning dames off their feet.
This was different. Delinsky’s stories are slower, more deliberate. They are more interested in exploring relationships between friends, family members, and lovers than they are in vividly recreating steamy sex on the page. Her novels are an interesting change of pace.
Have you ever read a story and started feeling like you’re watching a real-life movie; Not My Daughter gave that feeling. Barbara Delinsky brings her masterful family portrait, thought-provoking ideas concerning the nature of life and how sometimes one’s emotions affect their decisions. The theme of motherhood drew me in as I read about the teenage pregnancy and how many girls became victims. It also explored what it means to be a good mother. While My Sister Sleeps novel was a satisfying read exploring the complex world of siblings. Delinsky lets us closely look at the relationship between sisters, husbands, wives, daughters, and mothers.
