I came to know Angel Marsons after i read the complex mystery thriller DI Kim series, thanks to this list of books. The story is well layered, and the characters are distinctive and unique. Kim Stone is my all-time favorite character, and I liked how she can’t hide her feelings sometimes. She’s very pushy and stubborn and shouts orders to her team members with expectations they will act fast. The author incorporates action and intrigue early enough for the reader to stay engaged. Marsons also does an excellent job in developing the character to make them believable. ‘If Only’ revolves around the love lives of three middle-aged ladies and the challenges they face. The suspense in the book kept me hooked to the last page.
I love Angela Larsons. I knew I wanted to read her novels when I learned that traditional publishers had rejected her submission for over two decades before Bookouture released her first novel. That kind of dedication amazes me.
Her story compelled me to read her work because an author wouldn’t persevere for that long unless they had something significant to say. From what I’ve seen, most people were sold the moment they read ‘Silent Scream,’ and for a good reason.
That novel was engaging and highly disturbing. But I wasn’t a fan until ‘Evil Games,’ the sequel. Authors write incredible debut novels all the time, only for the second book to disappoint.
But in Marson’s case, ‘Evil Games’ was even better than its predecessor, which speaks volumes about the author’s abilities as a storyteller.
I can’t remember how I came across Angela Marsons’ books. It might have been a search on Amazon with books recommended for me. The first book, Silent Scream was good and had me turning pages well after bed time. However, her second in the series, Evil Games, had me hooked! I could not work out how Kim Stone would catch the wily, skilled perpetrator. One is kept on one’s toes in this one with two investigations underway at the same time. It was so tense that I could not read for long periods and had to take breaks before picking up the book again.
Her standalone book, “If only” is completely different. It is a wonderful, light-hearted read.
I look forward to reading the rest of the D.I. Kim Stone series.
