I normally take offense with people who dismiss the books I love as ‘Not Literature.’ But you won’t find me defending McDermott from those accusations. The author knows who he is, which is why I love his work.

His books are fast-paced, action-packed thrillers with ridiculous concepts, and they are shockingly entertaining. I don’t understand why the labels even matter. Authors write books, and all books are technically literature, regardless of whether it’s Shakespeare or Andy McDermott.

Authors combine words and sentences on the page to entertain readers. The fact that every McDermott novel I’ve ever read has entertained me is enough. I hope the Matt Reeves adaptation succeeds. I would love to watch Nina and Eddie’s adventures on the big screen.
