Andrea Camilleri’s police procedurals are unlike anything I’ve ever read. On the one hand, the blueprint is the same. You have a detective solving challenging crimes with the help of a dedicated team.

On the other hand, Andrea’s stories are strangely relaxed. Even when the plot thickens and the case takes a turn for the worst, you get the sense that Andrea has no interest in rushing things.

Maybe the author’s style has something to do with his Italian roots. I don’t know anything about Italian fiction. But if it resembles Andrea’s work in any way, I may abandon my TBR list to embark on a long and in-depth journey into the realm of Italian mysteries and police procedurals.
