Andre Iguodala
Andre Iguodala (Andre Tyler Iguodala) was born on January 28th, 1984 and is currently 41 years old. Andre Iguodala was born in Springfield, Illinois, USA.
Andre Iguodala was a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association, and won 4 championships, all with the Warriors. During his 19 seasons in the NBA, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat.
Growing up he was a Chicago Bulls fan, and he has cited Michael Jordan as the player that he looked up to the most.
In the summer of 2000, he captured the attention of coaches all around the nation by hitting the buzzer beating game winner to give his team (the 17 and under) AAU national title and was named tourney MVP.
The 76ers took him 9th overall in the 2004 NBA draft, and played for them until he was involved in a 4 team trade that saw him land with the Nuggets.
When he joined the Warriors, he became a reserve for the first time in his career, however he played a major role, capturing the Finals MVP after coming back to the starting lineup during the middle of the championships series. While he was with the Warriors, they went to the Finals 5 times in a row, winning 3 championships.
During his 2 year stint with the Heat, he made it to his 6th straight NBA Finals, making him the 10th player in history to ever do that.
His autobiography,
The Sixth Man, traces his journey from childhood in his hometown of Springfield, Illinois to his Bay Area home court today. Basketball has always been there. However this is the story of his experiences of the racial tension and conflict that’s still present in a professional league that’s made up largely of African American men. He tells the story of the relationship between both competition and brotherhood among the players of one of history’s most glorious championship teams.
He also discusses the whether and the why the athlete does in fact owe the total sacrifice of his body. And he explores what motivates an athlete to continue striving for more once they have achieved the highest level of play that they could have possibly dreamed of.
Off the court, he has earned respect as well, increasingly for his contributions to the conversation about race in America, his philanthropy, and his successful tech investments.
It’s a powerful memoir of basketball and life which reveals new depths to the superstar athlete, and it also offers up tremendous insights into the most urgent of tales that’s being told in American society today.
