I like Maggie O’Dell. I know people who read crime fiction for the mysteries and nothing else. But I have consumed enough mysteries over the years to last me a lifetime. These days, the only way to hold my attention is to give me compelling personal drama.
And that is what I get from Alex Kava’s Maggie O’Dell series. The individual books spend as much time exploring Maggie’s life and her relationships as they do the mysteries she has to solve.
Don’t get me wrong. I like the mysteries. But I have to care about the character solving the mystery. In that regard, Kava keeps exceeding my expectations.
Wow. I read the latest Creed book and can’t wait for the next. I’ve been known to re-read the entire series in anticipation of the next book. Looks like I will be doing so again, waiting for Midnight Creed. I read all the Maggie O’Dell books which, of course ,introduced me to the Creed series.
I found the Ryder Creed books before I heard of Maggie O’Dell. I have now read all the Creed books – and love everyone. I do have the first two Maggie O’Dell’s and when time allows know I will really enjoy them. I need the back story for Maggie and so she is tugging on my interest to find out about her. I’m glad the latest Midnight Creed speaks to the bond between military personnel and their service dogs. I hope it reaches people who can hep keep the two united when their time in the service is done.
My favorites are the Ryder Creed books but I do love when the cross over with the Maggie O’Dell character
