Alex Blackwell
Alex Blackwell (Alexandra Joy Blackwell) was born on August 31st, 1983 and is currently 42 years old. Alex Blackwell was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. Blackwell attended Barker College.
Alex Blackwell is an ex-professional cricketer and Australian women’s cricket captain that played for New South Wales and Australia as a specialist batter.
In March of 2000, she was called into the New South Wales team for the under 17 interstate competition. During the first match, she took 3/7 and was not required to bat in a ten wicket victory over Victoria Blue. Alex’s top score for the entire tournament came during the 6th match against Western Australia, where she scored 57 not out. NSW won all 8 of their matches in order to claim the competition and Alex wound up with 149 runs at 37.25 and 7 wickets at 17.00.
After she made her international debut in 2002-03, she went on to play in more matches for Australia than any other female cricketer in history. One of the highlights of her career was captaining the 2010 Women’s team to World Twenty20 victory.
Then, she made her Test debut in this 2 match series against England at the Gabba in Brisbane, hitting a half-century during the latter fixture. After this, she was retained for the Second Test at Bankstown Oval in Sydney. Australia batted first and she came in at 4/90.
Fair Game tells the story of Alex Blackwell, who has breathed and lived Australia’s national sport of cricket for 30 years.
Beginning as a child, she spent her whole childhood and teenage years competing and playing with Kate (her identical twin) who was just as devoted to bat and ball as Alex. However it was Alex that would go on to consolidate a spot in the national side, eventually rising all the way up to captaincy, notching up this eye-watering list of sporting achievements and earned a name for herself as being one of the greats of the sport.
However, life off the field brought some challenges of their own. Alex, right from her pro debut, was not afraid to call out hypocrisy and go into battle against traditional hierarchies of the sport. Speaking out and becoming a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ people and women in the game won her numerous fans and a lot of respect, however this did not come without a cost.
This is an unflinching account of life in Australia’s most beloved sporting team, and is told by one of the most lauded members it has. It reveals not just the extreme skill and dedication that it takes to be the very best, however also how it feels to be on the outer, even as one of the most decorated players in the sport.
